Honda IndyCar test at Sebring sees new aero bits revealed

Three Honda teams and seven drivers are testing today at Sebring International Raceway, ahead of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season.

And while some new Honda aero parts were cloaked in secrecy a couple weeks ago when Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Andretti Autosport tested, two drivers from other teams - Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and A.J. Foyt Enterprises - were a bit more lenient.

Mikhail Aleshin, who tests for SPM and is coming to Sebring straight off winning the pole position and driving in this weekend’s Rolex 24 at Daytona with the SMP Racing BR Engineering BR01 Nissan, was first to post a pic of the new aero components.

The front wing and sidepod ramps are most noticeable.

Takuma Sato for Foyt also posted a pic, more from the rear.

Sato and Jack Hawksworth (Foyt) and Aleshin and James Hinchcliffe (SPM) join Andretti’s trio of Ryan Hunter-Reay, Carlos Munoz and Marco Andretti testing today.

Aleshin, Hawksworth and Hunter-Reay all raced at the Rolex 24, although Hawksworth’s seat time with Starworks Motorsport was limited due to drive time issues caused when the team’s other Silver-rated driver, Chris Cumming, was ruled out of further competition after he was hit in the rear by the DeltaWing in the fourth hour.

Hunter-Reay finished third, co-driving with Ryan Dalziel and Marc Goossens in the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette DP. Aleshin finished ninth in class, 38th overall, in the BR01 he shared with Nicolas Minassian, Maurizio Mediani and Kirill Ladygin.
