Malaysian driver Weiron Tan will make his second crack at the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires season with a different team, having confirmed a switch from Andretti Autosport to Team Pelfrey on Tuesday.
He’ll join Aaron Telitz as Pelfrey’s first two confirmed drivers in Pro Mazda.
Tan had a bit of a roller coaster 2015 season, with his aggression on display in early races, but matured and developed as the year progressed.
Still, he was exciting to watch as he won a total of six races - four in the regular season and two in the Cooper Tires WinterFest. He finished fourth in the regular season championship.
“My rookie year in the US went really well and I cannot wait to get back into action in 2016,” Tan said. “I came very close to winning WinterFest and was in the title fight for Pro Mazda throughout the season, so this year the aim is definitely to go for the Championship title and I’m in a strong position to do that with Team Pelfrey. St Pete can’t come soon enough.”
