Defending Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will get the first public run in Mercedes’ new W07 car in Barcelona on Monday at the start of pre-season testing.
Hamilton claimed his third F1 world title in 2015, becoming the first British driver to win back-to-back championships and firmly establish himself as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Mercedes spent much of Saturday teasing what the new car would look like, giving fans some exclusive snippets of footage from its filming day at Silverstone earlier in the week.
The first full images of the car will be circulated on Sunday before it gets its first official on-track run on Monday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Mercedes confirmed on Saturday that Hamilton would be the first to take part in testing following the car’s launch at 8:15am local time in Barcelona.
“The eighth Silver Arrow to compete in the Formula One World Championship will then take to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at the hands of Lewis Hamilton for the opening day of 2016 pre-season testing at the Spanish circuit,” a short statement from the team read.
Teammate Nico Rosberg will get his first run in the new car on Tuesday before handing the reins back over to Hamilton for Wednesday. Rosberg will close out the first test on Thursday.
