Kimi Raikkonen has ended fastest in the final day of the four-day opening test at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, while McLaren Honda had a troublesome afternoon with almost no running whatsoever.
Raikkonen, in the Ferrari SF16-H, spent a bulk of the morning running on the Pirelli ultrasofts and recorded a best time of 1:23.477 in a total of 79 laps. Teammate Sebastian Vettel’s 1:22.810 lap has stood as the fastest time of the week, recorded on Tuesday.
Daniil Kvyat and Alfonso Celis Jr. were next up, with Kvyat’s best time of 1:24.293 in the Red Bull RB12 TAG Heuer while Celis took over in the new Sahara Force India VJM09 Mercedes for his second day of running this week, ending at 1:24.840.
Most of the 12 drivers that ran had sufficient laps – Mercedes again had both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in the W07 during the day.
But the one that didn’t was Fernando Alonso in the MP4-31 Honda for McLaren. A coolant leak in the morning prevented the Spaniard from posting a representative time.
It ended what had been a far less troublesome first test of the winter for McLaren, compared to its diabolical start at Jerez last year.
