McLaren junior driver Nyck de Vries will make his debut in the GP3 Series this year with ART Grand Prix.

De Vries, 21, was the best-performing rookie in Formula Renault 3.5 last year, ending the season third in the standings with one win to his name.

The Dutch racer will now race in GP3 from 2016, joining ART thanks to its connections with McLaren-Honda.

“ART Grand Prix have an incredible track record and it’s the team where any young driver would like to grow,” de Vries said.

“Obviously, I’m very proud to join this team, which I have known for a few years now. GP2 and GP3 are definitively the most competitive series, where most of the drivers want to go and the best school to get prepared for the highest level of motorsport, Formula One.

“I am confident that working with the best team, thanks to McLaren, will help me to quickly adapt to the car to get ready for the first race in Barcelona. I already know ART Grand Prix, there’s a great atmosphere in the team and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”

De Vries will be joined at ART by Thai youngster Alexander Albon and Japan’s Nirei Fukuzumi, with one seat still to be filled.

In other GP3 driver news, Malaysian driver Akash Nandy was today confirmed as having joined Jenzer Motorsport for 2016, adding to the growing grid.
