Brembo will keep putting the brakes on the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2016.

The company and INDYCAR officials announced Wednesday that Brembo will return for a fifth consecutive season as the exclusive supplier of race car brakes for the open-wheel competition series.

Brembo kicks off its fifth year as brakes supplier to INDYCAR for this weekend’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Brembo has adjusted the braking needs for this year’s race cars to the new aero kids found on Hondas and Chevrolets.

“The aerodynamic kits introduced last season by Chevrolet and Honda showed marginal gains in downforce,” Brembo president/CEO Dan Sandberg, president said in a media release. “Brembo North America and drivers are taking full advantage of Brembo’s brake systems by braking deeper, and by getting back on the throttle sooner.”

Brembo has been stopping Indy cars since 1989, when its brakes were first used by Bobby Rahal in the CART series. The company spent the next two-plus decades providing brakes to other teams, as well, before it become the exclusive brake supplier to INDYCAR in 2012.

Brembo has also been a force in the Formula One world, dating back to 1975. Since then, it has earned 21 Drivers’ and 25 Manufacturers’ championships in F1, has been on the winning cars in 24 of the last 27 years in the 24 Hours Of Le Mans, 25 of the last 28 years in MotoGP and the last four years in INDYCAR.
