Will Power enjoyed a trouble-free return to the track earlier this week in a solo day-long test at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

Power was forced to miss the opening round of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season in St. Petersburg after experiencing nausea over the weekend and failing the Sports Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT) test with concussion-like symptoms.

However, after undergoing tests at Miami University Hospital, Power was found to have shown no definitive signs of concussion and was cleared to drive again.

Ahead of next weekend’s race at Phoenix International Raceway, Power took part on a one-day test at Barber on Tuesday which went according to plan.

“It felt good, really good,” Power told indycar.com, adding that he had “no problem” returning to the no. 12 Penske car in which he completed almost 90 laps.

“It was basically a combination of getting back in the car with the race coming up, too. It all helps out. I know this track like the back of my hand.”

Power conceded that it was difficult to learn too much from the private test without any other cars to compare with, but appreciated the track time.

“You like competition there so you can judge where you are at,” Power said.

“It’s way more beneficial to test when the other cars are here. You have a measure how to tell exactly where you need to be.

“I’m afraid you can’t really change much [on the car]. You’ve just got a combination of things, trying a few items my engineer wanting to get to and getting laps under our belt.”
