The crash involving Fernando Alonso and Esteban Gutierrez in last weekend’s Formula 1 season-opener was one of the biggest seen in motorsport so far this year.
However, Sacha Bottemanne’s shunt in a French GT Tour championship race at Nogaro is certainly up there as he was left to escape a huge crash through the windscreen of his car.
Racing in a Ferrari 458 GT3, Bottemanne tangled with another car while going wheel-to-wheel, causing him to spear off to the right-hand side of the track.
The car slammed into a concrete wall, destroying much of its front end and littering debris all over the circuit.
Bottemanne was able to make a quick exit through the windscreen and walked to the side of the track limping with the assistance of a marshal.
GT Tour reported that Bottemanne would be undergoing various medical exams in the wake of his huge shunt, and would provide further updates.
Après son accident, @sachabottemanne est conscient. Il va passer différents examens. Nous vous donnerons des nouvelles prochainement #gttour
