Mick Schumacher will race in both the Italian and German Formula 4 championships in 2016 with Prema Powerteam.

The son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, 17-year-old Mick stepped up to single seater racing in 2015 with Van Amersfoort Racing in the German ADAC F4 championship.

It was announced in February that Schumacher would be joining Prema for 2016 and that a decision on which championship he would enter would be made at a later date.

Via his official website, it was confirmed that Schumacher will race in both the Italian and German F4 championships to begin with this year before making a decision about committing to one of them later in the season.

Schumacher set the pace in the final German F4 pre-season test at Oschersleben on Wednesday ahead of the opening round of the season at the same track on April 15.

“We’re fairly pleased with what we’ve accomplished over the final two days of testing before the season starts – although you can never be completely satisfied,” Schumacher said.

“To be honest, though, it’s high time we got started, so that we can actually see where we stand. I’m looking forward to the first race at Oschersleben.”
