BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A.J. Foyt Enterprises has confirmed a new engineer for Jack Hawksworth, driver of the No. 41 ABC Supply Co. Honda.

Dan Hobbs, who had moved over to Foyt’s team from Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, was released following the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The new engineer is Daniele Cucchiaroni, a 35-year-old out of Spoleto, Italy, who has previous experience in GP2 and was the performance engineer for Hawksworth’s teammate Takuma Sato last year. Cucchiaroni earned his second level degree (akin to a PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Perugia in Italy.

“Daniele was my performance engineer at Bryan Herta Autosport in 2014 and also at the start of this year. He joined AJ Foyt Racing at the same time as me,” Hawksworth said in a release.

“He is exceptionally talented and bleeds racing. We have a very good relationship and I always knew he would engineer my car at some point. I just didn’t expect it to be so soon! I’m looking forward to the weekend and starting our season in Barber.”

Hawksworth has finished 11th, 19th and 21st in the three races thus far this season, his second with Foyt and third in IndyCar. Sato has two top-six finishes in the opening three races and currently sits sixth in points.
