Arguably one of the most talented open-wheel drivers who never got a proper F1 chance, past A1GP champion and current FIA World Endurance Championship competitor Adam Carroll could be set to make his long-awaited FIA Formula E Championship debut at the Berlin ePrix later this month.

Carroll was listed on the FIA Formula E FanBoost website at Team Aguri, in place of Antonio Felix da Costa. Da Costa, the Portuguese ace, will miss the May 21 FE round because of his DTM commitments at the Red Bull Ring in Austria the same weekend.

A statement issued by Team Aguri to multiple media outlets, including MotorSportsTalk, reads as follows: “We will be making an announcement about our driver line up for the Berlin ePrix shortly. We have been in conversation with a number of drivers and will provide more information in due course.”

Team Aguri has been the busiest team in terms of driver changes this year and this one would put the team close to if not at capacity of the enforced limit this year. Da Costa and Nathanael Berthon started the year; Salvador Duran re-joined the team in place of Berthon after a couple rounds and Qing Hua Mua raced in the second car in place of Duran last round in Paris.

For Carroll, the chance to debut would come after nearly making his debut on two occasions in the same event at Buenos Aires. He was on standby for Nick Heidfeld at Mahindra, having also tested for the team last summer, and additionally had a seat fitting at DS Virgin to potentially stand-in for Jean-Eric Vergne.

Carroll’s North American open-wheel career also had two false starts; he was the planned injury stand-in for Justin Wilson in 2006 in Champ Car, before Wilson rallied to drive at Mexico City later that year. Ultimately Carroll made a pair of starts for Andretti Autosport in 2010.

This past weekend in Spa-Francorchamps, Carroll co-drove with Ben Barker and Michael Wainwright to a fifth place finish in the GTE-Am class in the No. 86 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR.
