Simon Pagenaud looks to continue 2016 streak of doubling-up at Indianapolis

After four races, it’s very apparent that Simon Pagenaud likes doing things in pairs this season.

The current Verizon IndyCar Series points leader finished second in the first two races of the season at St. Petersburg and Phoenix.

More recently, he’s finished first at both Long Beach and Birmingham.

Add the first four races together and Pagenaud has an average start of 3.8 and an average finish of 1.5. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Now that he’s back in Indianapolis, Pagenaud is ready to pair up again, preparing for this Saturday’s Angie’s List Grand Prix as well as the historic 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29, both at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“We come into May with a lot of momentum and that’s a great position to be in,” said Pagenaud, who will drive the No. 22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet this weekend.

While he would love to win the 500, first things first: Pagenaud wants to win the Grand Prix for the second time. The Frenchman won the inaugural race on the IMS road course in 2014.

“The road course at Indy really suits my driving style,” Pagenaud said. “In fact, this track probably suits my style the best. It’s a track that I’ve won at in the past.

“As a team, our confidence level is very high, but we’re going to continue to work hard and not let the early season success spoil us.”
