INDIANAPOLIS - When the writers in the media center have got as many laps on track as the projected field of 33 drivers, it’s not a good day.

And such a sentence defines May 17, 2016, a.k.a. the first fully scrubbed day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in five years (May 18, 2011).

Persistent drizzle was enough to halt track activity before it even got underway this afternoon, and a worsening forecast coupled with the amount of time it takes to dry the full 2.5-mile oval - at least two if not three hours - meant that at 2:45 p.m. ET and local time the decision was made to scrub the day’s activities.

Track activity will resume on Wednesday, scheduled from 12 to 6 p.m. ET and local time.
