Team Aguri has announced that seasoned sportscar racer Rene Rast will replace Antonio Felix da Costa for this weekend’s Formula E race in Berlin.
Da Costa is unable to take part in the penultimate round of the 2015-2016 season due to a clash with a DTM race in Austria.
Team Aguri had been in talks with a number of drivers regarding the vacant seat for the race, entering Adam Carroll for the weekend before the deal fell through.
Rast, who currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship with G-Drive Racing, undertook some simulator work this week before the deal was confirmed on Wednesday.
“Driving a Formula E car on the streets of Berlin will be something very special and I’d like to thank the team for this great opportunity,” Rast said.
“I have been in the simulator for the last few days to get a good feel for the car. While these cars have their own unique demands, I am confident that I can get up to speed quickly and use my experience in energy management to deliver a strong result for the team.”
Rast last raced a single-seater back in 2004 in the Formula BMW championship in Germany, where future four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel swept to the championship with 18 wins in 20 rounds.
The Berlin ePrix takes place on Saturday May 21.
