INDIANAPOLIS - Alexander Rossi in the No. 98 NAPA Auto Parts Honda for Andretti Autosport led the final practice before the 100th Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil first day of qualifying kicks off.
The rookie posted a best speed of 231.249 mph in the truncated session, where only 21 of 33 cars took times and 164 laps were completed.
The primary bit of news that came out of the morning was an accident for Max Chilton in the No. 8 Gallagher Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet. Chilton’s team is assessing the damage on the primary car to see whether they’ll need to go to a backup.
Qualifying begins at 2:20 p.m. ET and local time and is set to run until 7 p.m. ET.
