DETROIT (AP) — Australian driver Matt Mingay was in critical condition at a hospital after a crash in a Stadium Super Trucks race at Belle Isle on Saturday.
The SST competition was one of the support races at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, which features IndyCar races Saturday and Sunday. Detroit Receiving Hospital spokeswoman Arielle Endelman said Mingay was at the hospital and in critical condition.
A spokesman for the Grand Prix didn’t provide an update on Mingay’s condition, but confirmed he was admitted to that hospital.
The remainder of Saturday’s SST race was canceled after Mingay’s accident.

Just before 4 p.m. ET there was a further update listed on Mingay’s condition, which is now listed as serious but stable.

“Driver Matt Mingay was injured today in the Stadium SUPER Truck Series at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Mingay’s truck overturned during the third lap of today’s race, which was eventually suspended after a length delay due to the incident.
“Mingay was transported to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is currently listed in serious condition, but is stable at this time, according to a hospital spokesperson.
“According to Mingay’s family, he suffered facial injuries.
“Further updates on Mingay’s condition will be provided as they become available.”
