LEXINGTON, Ohio - You never know when David Letterman will show up at a race track but considering the late night legend’s love affair with car racing, it’s still not a surprise when the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing co-owner does so.

Naturally, then, it was only fitting to see the man whose beard has jokingly been referred to as a “Santa beard,” given its huge length, appear at a race where Honda Racing put on a “Christmas in July” camping theme and had Santa Claus making the rounds at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

NBCSN pit reporter Robin Miller had the chance to catch up with Letterman during the pre-race show for today’s Honda Indy 200, and you can view that clip below.

In this clip, they discuss the former late night host’s son, parenting, and unemployment.

Graham Rahal, driver of the No. 15 Steak ‘n Shake Honda, then ended fourth in today’s race after attempting to defend his win.

Letterman was also at Detroit and Indianapolis this year, among other appearances. You can watch an interview he did with NBC News’ Tom Brokaw - “On Assignment” - below, which features a small IndyCar presence.
