Esteban Ocon has picked his car number for his Formula 1 race debut, with the French rookie set to drive car No. 31 for Manor starting at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Ocon, the Mercedes junior, will be matched head-to-head with Pascal Wehrlein in the same machinery. Rio Haryanto’s funding ran out and the Indonesian was dropped from a race seat, although he did accept a reserve role for the remainder of the season.
Ocon’s number selection of 31 means there’s now been three numbers in the 30s picked – Jolyon Palmer has 30 and Max Verstappen 33 – since drivers selecting their own numbers was introduced prior to the 2014 season.
