Colton Herta has secured his first win in the Euro Formula Open Championship this morning at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, with a lights-to-flag victory.
The 16-year-old American, who drives for Carlin and has also won the MSA Formula race in Snetterton last year, bagged the win in the series following a dynamic start while plenty of action took place behind him.
Following the win, Herta said, “I had a great start – probably one of the best of those around me which meant I could lead in to the first corner and begin to pull a margin. I came under a little bit of pressure from Leonardo [Pulcini] but other than that the race was under control knowing that we had pace and even managing to save my tires a little.
“The car was really great today and I felt comfortable, it’s great also to know we can have another strong day tomorrow. It’s fantastic to get the first win, I’m really happy with that.”
