Romain Grosjean will start Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix from the pit lane after the Haas Formula 1 team changed the floor on his car after qualifying.
Grosjean struggled to P21 on the grid, telling NBCSN after the session that it was one of the worst qualifyings of his career as Haas struggled to get to grips with the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Grosjean had been due to start ahead of Jolyon Palmer, but will now start from pit lane after Haas changed the floor on his car overnight, breaching parc ferme conditions.
“As the floor is different from the one originally used in qualifying the competitor is required to start for the Pit Lane,” a short statement from the FIA stewards reads.
The Mexican Grand Prix is live on NBC and the NBC Sports app from 2:30pm ET on Sunday.
