Mick Schumacher has missed out on his second Formula 4 title in the space of a month after seeing rival Marcos Siebert win the Italian series on Sunday at Monza.

The son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, Schumacher Jr., 17, won the opening race of the weekend to cut the gap to Siebert in the championship to 18 points.

The pair went wheel-to-wheel on track during the second race of the weekend, only for Schumacher to sustain damage to his front wing that forced him to pit for repairs.

Schumacher ultimately crossed the line down in 27th place, while Siebert scored the points required in fifth place to move into an unassailable lead ahead of the final race of the season later on Sunday.

Schumacher’s title defeat comes less than a month after he missed out on the German F4 title to Australia’s Joey Mawson at the final round of the season, finishing the year in second in the standings with five wins.

Schumacher first made the step up to single-seaters in 2015, completing a year in the German series before taking on double duties with Prema Powerteam for 2016.
