Charles Leclerc has given up the opportunity to take part in practice for the final Formula 1 race of the 2016 season in Abu Dhabi so he can focus fully on the GP3 championship decider.

Leclerc, 19, joined Haas in a development role at the beginning of the year by virtue of the American team’s relationship with Ferrari, the Frenchman’s parent team.

Leclerc has taken part in four F1 practice sessions this season, with his main racing commitment coming in GP3, where he leads the championship by 29 points with two races remaining.

Ahead of the final double-header round in Abu Dhabi, Leclerc has decided to pass on another FP1 outing so he can prepare for GP3 qualifying on Friday afternoon at Yas Marina.
