British racer Emil Bernstorff will make his GP2 Series debut next weekend in Abu Dhabi, replacing Jimmy Eriksson at Arden.
Bernstorff, 23, spent two years in GP3 – his second with Arden – in 2014 and 2015, finishing his sophomore year fourth in the drivers’ championship.
The Briton tested a GP2 car for Arden at the end of last year, but did not secure a full-time race seat, leaving him on the sidelines for much of the season.
Bernstorff will now make his debut in the category at Yas Marina next weekend, with the deal being announced on Friday.
“First of all I would like to thank Arden for this opportunity,” Bernstorff said. “It will be a steep learning curve but I’m really looking forward to the challenge and to working with the team again.”
“We are pleased to give Emil the opportunity to race with us at the final race weekend at Abu Dhabi, and are confident that he will equip himself well, in spite of the fact that he has had limited track time in a GP2 car,” Arden’s Gary Horner added.
