Lewis Hamilton has congratulated Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg on his Formula 1 drivers’ championship win by sharing a retro photo on Twitter.
Hamilton lost out to Rosberg in the title showdown in Abu Dhabi last Sunday, falling five points short in the standings to miss out on a fourth crown.
Despite Hamilton’s on-track tactics in the decider being brought into question, the Briton was graceful on the podium after his defeat, shaking hands with Rosberg twice.
On Wednesday, Hamilton took to Twitter to share a photo of him and Rosberg from their karting days, the pair having been teammates long before their time together at Mercedes.
In the wake of his title win, Rosberg reflected on a career spent largely on the same grid as Hamilton, much of it playing catch-up on-track.
“It feels like I’ve been racing him for ever and always he’s just managed to edge me out and get the title even when we were small in go-karts,” Rosberg said.
“And he’s just an amazing driver and of course one of the best in history so it’s unbelievably special to beat him because the level is so high and that makes this so much more satisfying for me.
“I took the World Championship away from him which is a phenomenal feeling. It’s been a great year as well, for sure he drove at an extremely high level, he’s done some incredible racing so he’s been a very very tough competitor.”
