Josef Newgarden not only has a new team he’s racing for in the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season in Team Penske, but he’s got a new race strategist.
Initially reported by the Verizon INDYCAR Mobile app, Penske team president Tim Cindric will call the shots for Newgarden’s No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet this year, shifting from Will Power’s car. Jon “Myron” Bouslog will move from the No. 2 car to Power’s No. 12 car.
Both Newgarden (Brian Campe) and Power (David Faustino) retain the same engineers that were on those cars last year, although for Newgarden, Campe replaces Jeremy Milless as his race engineer from Ed Carpenter Racing.
Cindric moved to call Power’s races midway through the 2011 season, starting at Toronto, having previously been on the box for Helio Castroneves.
Newgarden teased a Verizon firesuit in a Twitter post, although liveries and full details of which sponsors are on his car for which races on his No. 2 car haven’t yet been revealed.
