Vandoorne’s 2017 Bahrain GP ends before it begins


Stoffel Vandoorne made his Formula 1 debut in last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix and promptly scored a point, finishing 10th, but will not have a chance for an encore today.

The Belgian’s car has been wheeled to the garage before today’s race (now live, CNBC), with another MGU-H issue for the Honda-powered McLaren MCL32.

“His power unit which failed earlier this weekend has failed again,” NBCSN lead commentator Leigh Diffey reported on the broadcast.

This adds to the nightmare weekend for the team, Vandoorne’s issue at least the third of the weekend with Fernando Alonso’s car also requiring an engine change prior to today’s race.
