MONTEREY, Calif - Rinus VeeKay may not have won the Indy Lights championship this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, but he still put on a dominant performance.

Just as he previously had done the day prior, VeeKay led all 30 laps in Sunday’s second round of the doubleheader. Easily holding off series champion Oliver Askew to claim his sixth victory of the season.

“I’m really happy to finally sweep a weekend in Indy Lights,” VeeKay told NBC Sports following the final race of the 2019 season. “I’m super happy, and it’s the best way I could end the season.”

Though VeeKay did not win the overall championship and the million dollar IndyCar scholarship that comes with it, he still has caught the attention of at least one IndyCar team owner. VeeKay had previously tested an Indy car Ed Carpenter Racing at Portland International Raceway this August.

“From now on, I think we’ll be many talks with IndyCar team owners in regards to budgets because we don’t have the Road to Indy scholarship,” VeeKay said. “That’s a little thing, but I think we’ll be alright.”

Rounding out the remainder of the top five, Tobey Sowery finished in the third position while Robert Mcgennis and Ryan Norman finished fourth and fifth, respectfully.
