Whenever the NTT IndyCar Series returns to the racetrack, Jimmie Johnson hopes he eventually can go for a spin, too.
The seven-time NASCAR champion was scheduled to test April 6 at Barber Motorsports Park in anticipation of racing part time in IndyCar next year after his final full-time year in NASCAR this season.
But that test was scrubbed when IndyCar announced this week that all testing would be banned in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
With virtually all of racing currently on hold, Johnson posted photos Friday afternoon of his recent seat-fitting at the Arrow McLaren SP shop in Indianapolis. The Hendrick Motorsports driver vowed to “rip a few laps” in the future.

Johnson also attended the IndyCar test at the Circuit of the Americas last month as a guest of McLaren. He swapped rides with Fernando Alonso after the 2018 Cup season when the two-time champion still drove for McLaren in Formula One.
