The Honda Indy of Toronto’s future is uncertain in the wake of the city announcing Friday that it’s canceling major event permits because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the CP24.com site, Toronto mayor John Tory said at a news conference that the city was withdrawing permits for July and August because of discouraging COVID-19 statistics.

The Honda Indy Toronto was scheduled to be held July 10-12 at Exhibition Place.

In a message on the race’s website, organizers said alternate date options are being explored with the city, Exhibition Place, Honda Canada and IndyCar.

There was no immediate schedule update from IndyCar, which will open its season June 6 at Texas Motor Speedway.
