Takuma Sato holds off Scott Dixon before a late caution to win the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Takuma Sato became the 20th driver to win the Indy 500 more than once Sunday, finishing first on the Greatest Spectacle in Racing results sheet for the second time.

Sato, who won the 2017 Indy 500 with Andretti Autosport, became the first two-time winner since Juan Pablo Montoya five years ago while delivering the second Indianapolis 500 victory for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (which also won in 2004 with Buddy Rice).

At 43, the Japanese driver because the sixth-oldest winner of the Indy 500.

The race ended under caution for the first time since 2013. Scott Dixon finished second for the third time after leading a race-high 111 of 200 laps, climbing to third all time on the list of Indianapolis 500 laps led (563).

Graham Rahal, Sato’s teammate, tied his career-best Indy 500 finish in 2011 with a third.
