IndyCar qualifying order for Gateway

IndyCar Gateway qualifying order

JAMES J BLACK

IndyCar has released the order for Saturday’s qualifying session, which will set the lineups for both races this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

The order was set by the points standings with championship leader Scott Dixon going last of the 23 drivers. Ed Carpenter will make the first laps.

Drivers will make two laps with the first determining the starting spot in Saturday’s race (3 p.m. ET on NBCSN, NBC Sports App and NBC Sports.com). The second lap will set the starting lineup for Sunday’s race (3 p.m. ET on NBCSN, NBC Sports App and NBC Sports.com).

IndyCar also used this format for the race weekend doubleheader last month at Iowa Speedway, where Conor Daly and Josef Newgarden were the pole winners.

Takuma Sato, who won the Indianapolis 500 for the second time Sunday, is the defending winner from last year’s IndyCar race at Gateway.

The doubleheader weekend at Gateway will mark IndyCar’s last time on ovals this season. The final five races after this weekend will be contested on street and road courses.
