Andrea Iannone has pulled out of this weekend’s MotoGP round at Motorland Aragon in Spain due to a recurring back injury sustained at Misano two weeks ago.

Iannone was forced to miss the San Marino Grand Prix after suffering a fall in practice that left him with a micro-fracture to his vertebra.

The Italian said that he was still feeling some discomfort ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix weekend, but was cleared to race by doctors on Thursday.

After taking part in first practice on Friday morning, Iannone took the decision to withdraw from the remainder of the race weekend as the pain in his back was too great.

Iannone will be replaced for the remainder of the weekend by Ducati rider Michele Pirro, who has raced on occasion for the Italian marque this year as a wildcard entry.
