Mark Martin may no longer be driving in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, but he’s been keeping busy.
Last summer, he became a driver development coach for one of his former teams, Roush Fenway Racing. And now, he’s become a partner in a late model team that features one of the best to ever sling dirt with a set of wheels.
Martin’s group of Arkansas car dealerships, Mark Martin Automotive, has provided additional sponsorship for the two-car Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series team of drivers Jared Landers and Scott Bloomquist.
Landers himself has been a steady competitor in that series, where he was the 2011 rookie of the year and has been a regular in the Top-10 of the championship standings. He is also the winner of over 100 open-wheel modified events.
But now, he’ll have the chance to learn from Bloomquist, who has earned two series titles and more than 550 feature victories in his career. He has won a staggering 36 percent of his 1,411 starts, and was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame as part of its second-ever class in 2002.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to team Jared up with Scott Bloomquist this season,” Martin said in a release. “Scott is the master of racing dirt models and anytime you can team with someone of that caliber, you can rest assured it will have a great impact on your program.”
Said Landers: “At this stage of my career, I could not ask for a better opportunity than to team with Scott. I’m really looking forward to hitting the dirt with our triple 7 machine this season and with the guidance and tutelage from a master like Scott Bloomquist, we are looking for great things in the coming months.”
