Supercross: Tomac, Bogle end KTM win streaks in Detroit

After watching Red Bull KTM sweep both classes for three consecutive weeks, it was GEICO Honda’s turn to accomplish the feat Saturday night in Detroit. Eli Tomac won the 450 Class main event, while Justin Bogle took the top spot in the 250 Class during Round 12 of the Monster Energy Supercross season.

For Tomac, it’s his second win of the year, and he had to battle the championship favorite to earn it.

450SX points leader Ryan Dungey grabbed the early lead but soon came under fire from Tomac. Once he overtook Dungey for the top spot on lap 5, Tomac was fully in control, extending his lead with each subsequent lap turned at Ford Field.

Although his three-race win streak was snapped, a second-place finish for Dungey allowed him to increase his points lead to 67 over Trey Canard.

As for Canard, he was unable to race the main event after a crash in his semifinal race in which he landed on Jake Weimer. The race was red-flagged while both riders were attended to. Canard reportedly suffered a broken arm in the incident.

The defending champion of the 250SX East Region, Justin Bogle recorded his first win of the season in the class. The wire-to-wire victory came at a much-needed time too, as Marvin Musquin had won three straight and was beginning to open up a significant championship lead.

Musquin would settle for the runner-up spot – finishing six seconds behind Bogle – but still holds a 13-point edge in the championship standings over the GEICO Honda rider.

Joey Savatgy rounded out the podium in third, matching his best finish of the season.

Monster Energy Supercross resumes next Saturday in St. Louis.
