Malcolm Stewart and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna announced a two-year contract extension prior to the Monster Energy Supercross finale in Salt Lake City.

Along with Christian Craig, this sets the factory team’s lineup for the 2024 season.

Stewart began the season as one of the riders generally accepted to be one of the primary contenders for the 2023 Supercross championship. He had the pace to stay up front and was leading in the season opener in Anaheim before an aggressive pass for the lead by Chase Sexton sent him off course. Four laps later, trying to make up the ground he lost, Stewart crashed hard and snapped a 20-round streak of Supercross top-10s. Stewart also suffered a crash in the next round that denied him a strong finish despite his strong San Diego run.

In offseason media sessions, Stewart indicated he was banking on the same kind of consistency he witnessed in 2022 to put him to title contention.

But during testing before the third round of the season, Stewart injured his knee and has not been able to return to action.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Malcolm sign for two more years,” said Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager Nathan Ramsey in a press release published on RacerXOnline.com. “It was clear to us before Malcolm’s injury that he was ready to win races and compete for the championship in 2023.

“Malcolm is not only a fan favorite, but also a pleasure to have as a part of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team, and we strongly believe that Malcolm will return to racing and be better than ever.”

This winter, Stewart was coming off the best Supercross season of his career with a third-place finish in the championship standings in 2022.

A timetable has not yet been established for Stewart’s return.

Teammate Craig is also currently on the injured list after dislocating a hip and breaking an elbow that required surgery. His return has also not been announced.
